Recently, we wanted something a bit different for dinner but we didn’t want to go to too much trouble. What do you do in times like that? Most people would order out. Not our plan.
Turns out we had some ground turkey on hand and spaghetti tends to be quick and easy. But if we just left it like that it wouldn’t be special, now would it. Easy solution to make it a little bit more than dinner as usual, make some turkey meatballs.
The basic method for making these is pretty much the same way you would go about making a meatloaf. But instead of making a loaf, you (wait for it) make little balls of meat. Really, it is that simple…
Ground Turkey (roughly 1 lb)
1 small onion rough chopped, small
3 mushrooms rough chopped, small
1 clove garlic chopped
1 slice of bread shredded (can use roughly 1/4 cup dried bread crumbs)
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon dried basil
Don’t hate me cause this seems so easy. Mix the ingredients well. Use an ice cream scoop to portion scoop out each meatball. Once they mix is scooped form into the ball shape and bake at 350 degrees for roughly 20 minutes.
Once they are done you can use them in all the same ways you would use any other meatball.
This recipe lends itself to interpretation. Like I mentioned before you can use the same recipe you would for meatloaf and come out just as well. A side benefit of the turkey meatballs comes from the lower fat content. This preparation means you can get something special without feeling guilty.
